Cat Reynolds Question and Answer Session

Cat Reynolds Question and Answer Session

Cat Reynolds, an Irish singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer living in London recently released his single Never Wanted to Stay, taken from The Sad Boy Club EP which will be out September 10th.
I have long admired his passionate vocals and songwriting; many of you do as well! To gain more insight into him and learn about his inspirations for creating music (along with details about an EP release), I had the privilege of interviewing him about various topics related to him – his inspirations as well as details regarding its release.
1. I was absolutely won over by Ancient History, with its raw emotion that captured my attention right from the start. But your most recent single, Never Wanted To Stay has an altogether different atmosphere when it comes to production – more upbeat and lively, in contrast with its lyrics. What led you to choose such a different approach when producing Never Wanted To Stay?

Thank you so much, that is truly appreciated. When writing these songs I didn’t intentionally set out to create this contrast; rather it came naturally. One reason why I love these songs so much is their genuine and raw quality; another factor may have been my appreciation of songs which sound unlike what their lyrical content attempts to communicate.

2. Can we expect anything special from The Sad Boy Club EP, your upcoming debut release?

Well my favourite track from my EP – another ballad – has yet to come. It serves as part two to Ancient History, and there may even be one or two surprises in store for listeners; I can’t wait for its release! I am looking forward to sharing it.

3. Which song from this project do you find most engaging and why?

My favorite song from this project is I’ll Miss The Rain. This track stands out to me because of its clever lyrics and excellent production value.

4. Who or what are your musical influences and how do they inform the way in which you create music yourself?

My inspirations span across various genres and there are too many to name, but recent music-wise people such as Theo Katzman, Still Woozy, Chris Martin, Kanye West and Jeremy Zucker have really moved me.
